Water Security & Sustainable Development under Changing Environment

Entering into force in 2016, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development considers 3 aspects on sustainable development: society, economy and environment. Water security under changing environment is not only a hot issue attracting international attention, but also a major challenge to safeguard the implementation of the national water security strategy and achieve sustainable development in China. With climate change, human society development and technology progress, the situation of water resources security has been changing dramatically in China. Focusing on the theme of Water Security and Sustainable Development, the 1st International Top-Level Forum on Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy — Water Safety and Sustainable Development was successfully held on May 29-30, 2015 in Nanjing. 13 keynote speeches and 25 talks at the round table meeting were conducted on 5 topics: utilization and optimal allocation of water resources, flood and drought disasters, water ecology and environment, hydraulic engineering construction and safety management, coastal and offshore engineering. In order to further discuss and explore solutions on water security under changing environment in China, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, Hohai University and Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society is going to hold the 2nd Forum on October 18-20, 2017 in Nanjing. The theme of the 2nd Forum is Water Security and Sustainable Development under Changing Environment. Worldwide participants are welcome to the Forum. Intensive discussions will be expected in view of the strategic demands of water security in China and international frontier of water science, which will provide technical support for water security to safeguard the sustainable economic and social development and ecological progress in China.
